I advise folks who are customizing the word exporter to save a copy of the the installed library. If you modify the exporter to work with v92 then you should save the v92 installed DXL:
-
C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.2\lib\dxl
This is because many of the functions are subject to change in the next version and your exporter may no longer work. When that happens you can deal with it, perhaps by copying the old functions that you use.

....Does IBM plan to deliver a new version soon?....
The question of the universe!! We all wait patiently.
Yes they do but I wouldn't say "soon" - information about "DOORS Next Generation" can be found by clicking here
Quoting from IBM's current release plan:
The schedule for selected milestones is as follows:
Milestone 3 - Oct 2011
Beta 1 - Dec 2011
Beta 2 - Mar 2012
Beta 3 - Jun 2012
The next release of Rational DOORS Next Generation is targeted for 4Q 2012.

Of course, there is this "next gen". But I understood that DXL won't be supported anymore. Did I understand well?

IBM have a caveat on DXL and DOORS Next Gen - the first version of Next Gen will not support DXL but "later" versions will.
There has already been a discussion about this in the DOORS forums in the context of professional DXL coding as a profession with a future - click here to see.

From hearing around on the fair and other places I got the following information:
-
The rich client of DOORS next gen will again be build based on DXL, just like the rich client of earlier DOORS versions. In fact I took a look at the current rich client and there seems to be already a subset of DXL implemented. Up till now the user cannot run custom DXL, this shall be enabled in two years.
-
In these two years IBM and its partners will try to determine the common denominator regarding the customizations that their customers have done, to see, which features can be build into DOORS Next Gen and which will stay customizations. The goal is, that their customers will only need 20% of the existing DXL customizations in DOORS Next Gen. The rest should be covered by standard functionality. For the remaining 20% IBM and its partners will support the customers in porting the DXL scripts to DOORS Next Gen.
-
There will be DOORS 9.4, where the full Rational Publishing Engine will be integrated and finally ReqIf will work 100%. In a speech on the fair an IBM representative said that they will NOT discontinue support for the old DOORS.
So DOORS 9.4 may be an option regarding an Export solution. Maybe that helps, Regards, Mathias
